Die afegelope naweek het ons ‘n heerlike vergadering gehad en al die nodige besprekings gedoen vir die beplanning van Sempre Opera se twee operas.

Die operas wat opgevoer gaan word is Giannis Schicchi en Suor Angelica, albei can Puccini.

Ons is almal baie opgewonde en ek is seker ons gaan ‘n groot sukses daarvan maak!

Removing Bluesoleil toolbar from outlook!

I am using the Bluesoleil software and every time I open Outlook, the toolbar is there, even if I try and remove the toolbar from outlook, it is back the next time I open the program,

I found this on GSM Forum, thanks to that soul!

Go to start -> run, and paste this to remove the addin!

Huawei E220 Modem in Gutsy!

Hi,

I recently got a E220 Vodafone modem and this is how i got it to work (thanks to our friend google)

Here is where i got helped...

Install the vodafone-mobile-connect-driver-for-linux which you can download here
I used Gutsy, so I downloaded the appropriate driver.

then for vodacom south africa, go to the settings and make:

apn host: internet
and make sure that you do not use DNS settings, just disable the check box.

and connect... this should work, it did for me.

Make an ISO Image

To make an ISO from your CD/DVD, place the media in your drive but do not mount it. If it automounts, unmount it.

dd if=/dev/dvd of=dvd.iso # for dvd
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=cd.iso # for cdrom
dd if=/dev/scd0 of=cd.iso # if cdrom is scsi

To make an ISO from files on your hard drive, create a directory which holds the files you want. Then use the mkisofs command.

mkisofs -o /tmp/cd.iso /tmp/directory/

This results in a file called cd.iso in folder /tmp which contains all the files and directories in /tmp/directory/.

Samsung ML 1610 in UBUNTU

I tried the Printer drivers from the samsung site and it did not work for everything... Now, i have found another site that writes drivers for samsung printiers. I installed and now it works like a charm... until now.. I know it may change anytime :-)

Ripping DVDs and Subtitles with mplayer

Ok, so mplayer has many features, not just watching but also converting and extracting etc.

I found this thread in the ubuntuforums and seems great.

Here are some of the commands:

1. Install needed applications

sudo apt-get install mplayer mencoder normalize-audio vorbis-tools mkvtoolnix mkvtoolnix-gui gpac x264-bin

2. Rip DVD to harddisk

mplayer dvd://1 -v -dumpstream -dumpfile title.vob

* 1 is the stream you want to rip.

3. Subtitles

In order to determine which subtitles are available on your DVD run the following command

mplayer dvd:// -v -vo null -ao null | grep "subtitle"

3.1 Rip subtitles

mencoder dvd://1 -nosound -ovc frameno -o /dev/null -slang en -vobsubout title

* 1 is the stream we extract the subs from
* slang is the desired language (en, de, fr, etc.)
* title is the basename of the vobsub files, in this case title.idx and title.sub

4. Audio

In order to determine which audio tracks are available on your DVD run the following command

mplayer dvd:// -v | grep "audio stream"

In case you want to keep the original AC3 audio step forward to 4.4.

4.1 Convert audio to PCM

mplayer title.vob -ao pcm:file=audio1.wav -vc dummy -aid 128 -vo null

* title.vob is the stream we already ripped in step 2
* audio1.wav is the name of the resulting PCM file
* -aid 128 chooses the first audio track

If you would like to rip another audio track (e.g. commentary or different language) repeat the above with the next track number (-aid 129 would be the second track) and save as audio2.wav.

4.2 Normalize audio

normalize-audio audio1.wav

Repeat on audio2.wav etc. if you have more than one audio track.

4.3 Encode audio into Ogg Vorbis

oggenc -q5 audio1.wav

* -q5 is the desired quality of the first track.

Bluetooth in ubuntu

Pues nada, aqui comento como utilizar bluetooth en ubuntu. Comento el caso para un movil nokia N70 pero es similar para cualquier otro modelo.

Lo primero tener instaladas las utilidades:

sudo apt-get install bluez-utils gnome-bluetooth

En mi caso mi placa no lleva soporte de bluetooth asi que compre un llavero USB que me lo proporciona. Conecto la llave usb y como root ejecuto los siguientes comandos.

/etc/init.d/bluetooth stop /etc/init.d/bluetooth start

Con esto fuerzo a que se reinicien los servicios de bluetooth.

First, if you do not have a .iso ... say a .bin that you want to mount...

use bchunk to make the .iso file. Then mount the .iso file:

Make sure you have a directory where you want to mount the ISO. I used /media/iso

sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 your_file.iso /media/iso

to unmount:

sudo umount /media/iso

using mencoder... directly form vcd... rip into avi..

mencoder vcd://2 -o file.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=2000

That is if the movie is the second (2) track on the vcd.

then the file.avi can be re-encoded if wanted!

capture webcam in VLC media player

With dapper i tried this ... it was posted on the ubuntuforums, and it worked for me...
con: you can not see yourself while recording...

Do this:

Connect your webcam.

Open VLC
File--> OPen capture device
Go to Video4Linux tab
Specify your video device name (mine was /dev/video0)
(My webcam audio doesn't work, so I left audio device as it is)
Norm: Automatic

Check "stream output" box
Click settings
Specify a filename (make sure you have write permissions there - usually a file on desktop or home directory is the best bet)
Unselect "dump raw input" (it must reamain empty)
Encapsulation method: MPEG1
Video codec: mp1v
Audio codec: mpga
"select all elementary streams" should remain empty.

Press OK

Press OK

Now press PLAY button on VLC.
The video should start recording. You can check this while VLC is recording video by right clicking on the recording file and selecting properties (it will show increasing file size).

Notes:
1. You can do an HTTP streaming by a similar method you are able to capture to a file.

When a repository in this list has a GPG key, you may need to add that to the APT trusted keys. You can do this with the following commands (replace KEY with the key ID)

Ok, i looked around for a scrypt to do this and the mplayer codec did not want to work right away for me... i had to install faad...

& sudo apt -get install faad

and then use this scrypte and save it as something like m4a2mp3.sh and execute like this...

& ./m4a2mp3.sh

(all the files in the dir will be converted to wav...

How to connect to the internet with a N70 in Ubuntu!

Process

Step 1: Plug the data cable into your mobile phone and into your computer. Then see whether it was recognised by the kernel.

tail /var/log/messages

Should result in something like the following output:

According to this output, the kernel driver being used is cdc-acm (you don't need to know that, but it may be useful for other applications). We can deduce from the second line that linux can see the device at /dev/ttyACM0 - this you will need to know.

Step 2: Configure Ubuntu to be able to communicate with your phone and use it to connect to the Internet.

Install ppp (handles modems and dialing) if it's not installed already:

sudo apt-get install ppp

You will need to create a configuration file that tells Ubuntu how to handle communication with the phone. If you prefer using a graphical text editor, replace "vi" in this and the following steps with "gedit". The files should be empty to start with.

sudo vi /etc/ppp/peers/mobile

Enter the following text:

Ubuntu will need to send some commands to your phone to tell it to connect to the Internet. These commands are stored in a chat script, and are sent when you try to connect.

You also need to be registered to use the modem connection. You are probably registered already, but this should take care of it if you're not (using your Ubuntu login name):

If you can connect to the Internet on your phone (without your computer), the configuration scripts above should work. If not, look around in the links given below and see whether you can resolve the problem. The most likely points of failure are the 'AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","INTERNET"' and ATD*99***1# sections.

Specifically where I have set "INTERNET" above, may well be different in your case. This is the Access Point Name (APN). It can (probably) be found in your phone's settings - I can get to it through the following path on my phone: Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points. From there choose the access point you use to connect to the Internet (most probably the first one on the list). One of the settings there is "Access point name". Substitute what it says there where I have put "INTERNET" above.

Step 3: You should now be ready to connect. To dial, use the "pon" command, and to disconnect, use the "poff" command.

Whatever messages are communicated between Ubuntu and your phone, should show up in /var/log/syslog. The easiest way to see what's happening in the process is to open another terminal and use the following command before connecting with the commands above:

tail -f /var/log/syslog

Whatever messages are written to the log, will now be displayed on your terminal "live".

eerstens moet lame geinstaller wees...

Dan, moet mens met SJ na Edit Gnome audio profiles...
genbruik dan die volgende:

ek het gesukkel om google earth te uninstall, want ek het nie synaptic gebruik om dit te installeer nie... dus was die oplossing om in die /google-earth directory te gaan soek en die command : sudo sh uninstall te run.. as ek dit nie mis het nie.. dit het goed gewerk...

flash 7 verander na flash 9 in ubuntu... mens moet glo n .dat leer edit maar dit het nie vir my gewerk op dit toets blad wat aangewys is nie.. better luck later..

Sjoe, ek was lanklaas hierso.

Ek het natuurlik toe begin luister na Rich dad Poor dad en al die ander interressante beleggingsboeke.

Is baie interressant en uiteindelik is ek in die selle bootjie as my dierbare vroutjie!

Ek is baie opgewonde en het weer nuwe lus vir die terugkeerslag. Ja, ek weet dit gaan nie maklik wees nie, maar dit hoef nie te wees nie, aanhouer wen.

Ek het eintlik nie juis twyfel dat ek die plan tot n einde gaan voer nie. Ek kan dit doen. Ek het al baie geleer en weet dit gaan so wees tot die einde toe.

Nou om presies uit te vind hoe die wetlike aspekte in die liewe S van A werk.

ps. ek is nou die trotse toetser van Dapper Drake - Ubuntu en op hierdie stadium het ek als aan die gang. Daar kan net so bietjie meer met die klank gewerk word. Die feit dat my rekenaar nie so vinnig is nie, dra ook by tot my frustrasies. Anders verloop alles volgens plan ;-)

Goed, eers het ek gedink mens sou dit direk kan doen, maar dit lyk my mens moet dit eers na .wav toe vat, en dan na .mp3 toe...

Of, mens kan eers

dan het mens n .wav leer wat mens eenfoudig net kan omskakel na mp3 met lame...

$ lame inleer.wav uitleer.mp3

Daar is natuurlik ander moontlikhede soos... pipe die twee opdragte saam...

$ flac -d -c inleer.flac | lame - uitleer.mp3

dit stuur die uitset van die flac bevel, na die lame enjin toe...

is alles natuurlik commandline...

Ek... Met valenteinsdag agter die rug en die tweede opvoering van Lady Macbeth om die draai, het ek vandag n rustige af dag... ai, dis darm lekker... sal ek ooit weer die genot van vandag kan beleef? Buite is dit nog nie so warm as wat dit kan wees nie... maar die somer kom hier in st. gallen.

Ubuntu... dit gaan nog goed aan met die ou rekenaar... is nou nog steeds op Breezy Badger... maar sal sodra Dapper offisieel aangebied word, daarna oorstyg.

Werk... die soeke na werk is nog aan die gang... vandag beter ek n goeie werksgeleentheid sien... ek hoop dat ek gou reg sal kom anders is dit tatta tatta hasie hasie vir ons en st. gallen... dit gaan n hartseer dag wees... en dan gaan trotseer ons die misdaad!

Gister was ek natuurlik lekker langs die swempad, die eerste rukkie sonder sonbrandolie, en toe later met. Na ek dit aangesmeer het speel ons toe lekker volleyball en gaan na die tyd vir n swem. Ek smeer toe eers weer oor so 10min weer olie aan.

Ha HA! Dit was sarkasties bedoel... dit was toe nie so n goeie idee gewees nie, ek is vandag ROOI gebrand en moet myself met room en dinge probeer klam hou... ek wil net nie vervel nie... Wel, ek moes seker daaraan gedink het toe ek kaal bolyfie ini son gaan le het ne!

Anders gaan dit goed.. is vandag n renerige dag.. is goed so! Ek het tyd nodig om te verbruin...

Ons maak vandag klaar met the Purpose, so nou kom die uitleef van my 5 doele in die lewe... ek leef klaar die meeste uit en werk aan die res.. Dit is soms bietjie moeilik as die mense om jou nie so ontfanklik is daarvoor nie.

Gisteraand sou ek n partytjie bygewoon het maar dit was te laat na my sin... :-) het maar toe besluit om na werk huistoe te kom... dit was 21:50 of so.

Dit sou vandag n goeie dag wees om haarnkipper te soek... sal sien wat ek maak.
